The Consultant #Prime video Series Review
One Word Review Waste of Time
Quick Review
Fascinating reason, good acting, unfortunate content. Each of the odd or bizarre actions in the series is said to be in the interest of growing a struggling gaming company and the legacy of its founder, who was shot to death by a child while on a field trip to the company's offices.
The main characters' willingness to comply with the wishes of the new consultant undermines credibility, and the story doesn't make much sense. Most likely due to the difficulty of caring deeply about any of these superficial characters, there is very little dramatic tension.
"The Consultant" tries hard to be mysterious, but it doesn't have a clear structure, going from the improbable to the ridiculous.
It might engage under-30's in its mysterious, sub-noir style. However, it severely lacks conceptual depth for those who did not have a Game Controller as a child.
Simply being enigmatic is not sufficient.
There is no subtext at all, leaving only a superficial, if not poor, version of the "who did it?" question without a strong desire to care "who?"
The supporting cast was a huge distraction with no charisma, and the story lost a lot of steam in the two most recent dull and ridiculous episodes. In the end, there was practically no reward, and all that was left was disappointment.
Unredeemable exercise in futility. Inexplicable character choices and actions, no responses. Eventually, one is left considering what any of it was about. I will not waste my time again if there is a second season, which I cannot fathom.
