"The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die" is British drama movie directed by Edward Bazalgette, composed by Martha Hillier, and in light of The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell. It is a sequel to the television series The Last Kingdom. Alexander Dreymon played role of Bebbanburg once more.
On April 14, 2023, Netflix released it. Its purpose is to bring the story and the series to a close.
One Word Review Good but not great.
Quick Review
This has the same issue as another recent Netflix film that was also a follow-up to a real series in that it has very little in common with a real movie?
Because it's all episodic, it still feels like a 6- to 8-episode series.
The battle sequences are fun when they happen, but there aren't many of them, and there will be a lot you don't understand. Extremely hurried, and it did not do justice to the beloved characters from the film and the books. The movie does not discuss the other main characters who were with Uthred at the end of the television series.
Truly it is very disillusionment . Subsequent to watching the series just hoped for something else, yet as numerous others said it most certainly leaves out characters and was surged. It was extremely hurried. To really take their time and develop the stories and demonstrate how we got from the previous season to this one, they could have made the movie in two or even three or four parts.
Another concern was that neither Stiorra nor Lady Aelswith, Lady Eadith, nor Aethelflaed's daughter were mentioned. It was incredibly disappointing not to even mention them.
Next, the known Aethelstan would never have treated Uhtred that way or carried out the actions he did. Because so many characters were missing, they required a second proper season to properly conclude the show. Sadly, the movie isn't as good as the series, but it was fun to see Uthred, Finan, and Sithric, as well as Father Pyrlig, in this final treatise.
I felt like the story was added too quickly to fit the 1.53-hour running time, and this could have been done better as the final season. There was a lot to show about Aethelestan's rise and events, but Netflix killed this masterpiece by giving it an extra 1.53 hours.
The conclusion was also subpar. a sad conclusion to a decent show. Go check out the show the seven kings must die.
2.5/5
